Tuxedo or Suit
A tuxedo has satin on the lapel, piping on the pocket, buttons, and a satin stipe down the leg. A suit does not have any satin and is not as formal as a tuxedo.

Notch, peak or Shawl lapel
A Notch Lapel is a small cut out in the lapel. A Peak Lapel is pointed at the top.
A shawl lapel is strictly for tuxedos and it wraps around the neck in a circular shape.
